Edouard Oger M.S - Food and Beverage Manager
Prior to his appointment as Food and Beverage Manager, Edouard Oger MS was Head Sommelier at Gidleigh Park since September 2008 with responsibility for an impressive 1,300 bins (13,000 bottles) of fine wines which cover a broad range of both Old and New World.
Brought up in the Loire Valley, 26-year-old Edouard was introduced into the art of wine making and tasting by his uncle. Since then, his passion for wine has taken him across the globe to renowned vineyards in Europe, Canada, South America and Australia.
Working his way up the ladder, Edouard studied at catering college in the Loire Valley and then became a waiter locally. In order to improve his English and wine knowledge he then accepted a position as Sommelier at Hayfield Manor Hotel, a five star hotel in Cork.
Following this, he became assistant sommelier at Hotel du Vin in Birmingham where he remained for one year and then went to Hotel du Vin in Harrogate and Henley-on-Thames as Head Sommelier. During this time, Edouard travelled extensively abroad to well known wine regions, gained his advanced Master Sommelier award and was voted 'Best Sommelier 2008' by the Court of Advanced Master Sommeliers.
In 2011, Edouard achieved the highest honour in the industry, becoming a Master Sommelier. With this ultimate professional qualification, Edouard Oger MS is a wine expert and qualified taster, offering the highest level of proficiency and knowledge regarding wines, spirits and other alcoholic beverages.
Edouard Oger MS says, “I have always wanted to work at an esteemed Michelin star restaurant and when I saw Gidleigh Park in a Relais & Châteaux brochure, I knew that it had to be my next goal! I was delighted to be given the position as Head Sommelier and it is a great privilege to be part of a dedicated and friendly team.
