Jurassic Coast

The Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage site is England’s first natural World Heritage site, known as the Jurassic coast it spans 95 miles of stunning coastline from East Devon to Dorset.

The south west coast path runs along the entire length of the Jurassic coast and reveals thousands of years of history in the rock formations and dramatic coastal outline.

Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001 it joins such worldwide wonders as the Great Barrier Reef and the Giants Causeway, such is the historic importance of these rock formations illustrating in their form the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

Walking these pathways really is following the footsteps of our ancestors and thousands of fossils have been found on its shores, including ammonites, dinosaur bones and teeth, sea creatures, insects and flying reptiles. Even an amateur explorer should hunt around as they are easily uncovered.
